The name VOMP points back to the debut performance Vanity of Modern Panic - V.O.M.P. from 2017, where it all started. A successful performance that has been defined for the company, being tactile, malleable, humorous and yet serious. All of which are the cornerstones of Gunilla Lind's artistic practice. V.O.M.P. is a performance that no longer tours, but a work we want to carry with us as part of the core identity of the company.
We have long had a wish to change our name, and the company's admission to the Danish Arts Foundation's career programme, 'The Young Artistic Elite' has made it possible to delve into a process that has sharpened the formulation both internally and externally of who we are, what we want — and what we dream of.
Choreographer and artistic director, Gunilla Lind says:
“The name VOMP should arouse a curiosity among the audience. I think that the new name reflects our energy, taste and aesthetics, and hopefully the name will reason better with our primary target audience. With our new name, we also want to show people that we are more people who carry the company. As choreographer and artistic director, I work closely with creative producer, Shuli Nordbek a dancer and dramaturge, Josefine Ibsen, both of whom have been part of the company since the beginning.”
In addition, The Young Artistic Elite aims to strengthen the company's international career, create a larger network abroad and sharpen its international strategy. Therefore it has been important to choose a name that also resonates outside of Denmark.
To celebrate our new name, we invite you to a release reception Friday, September 6, in the foyer of Dansekapellet at Bispebjerg Torv 1, 4pm — 6pm.
Come and make a toast with us!
